Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has set an ambitious goal for the Maldives at next year’s World Travel Awards, targeting victories in at least 15 categories. Speaking at a ceremony held at Velana International Airport (VIA) to celebrate the nation’s success in this year’s awards, the minister highlighted the collective effort behind the country’s achievements.
The Maldives secured nine awards this year, including the coveted titles of World’s Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year and World’s Leading Green Destination for the first time. Minister Faisal emphasized the importance of building on this momentum, expressing confidence in the tourism industry’s ability to claim even more accolades.
“Through better competition and enhanced performance, we aim to secure 15 to 20 awards next year, in collaboration with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the industry,” he said.
MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree shared plans for a more diversified marketing approach in 2025. He outlined efforts to tap into new markets and expand tourism offerings to include niches such as sports tourism, health tourism, film tourism, and education tourism.
The ceremony also featured the unveiling of the updated World’s Leading Destination Monument at VIA, commemorating the Maldives’ continued dominance in the global tourism industry.
