Nationwide Clean-Up Drive Organized Ahead of Ramadan

In preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, the government has launched a nationwide clean-up campaign to ensure a cleaner, more welcoming environment for residents and visitors. The initiative is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, along with the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage. The clean-up event is scheduled to take place this Saturday.

Director General of the Ministry of Cities, Ahmed Mausoom, shared that the campaign will be rolled out across the greater Malé area as well as the islands. A wide range of institutions, businesses, and government offices are expected to participate in the efforts, with a focus on areas where waste has accumulated.

“The city will be divided into five key areas for the clean-up, including Usfasgandu, the industrial zone, the artificial beach area, and the customs area,” said Mausoom. In total, 40 institutions will take part in the initiative to ensure that these spaces are thoroughly cleaned ahead of the fasting month.

In addition to cleaning efforts, Mausoom revealed that the police would be involved in towing away old, abandoned vehicles that have been left in these areas for extended periods. This effort aims to further improve the cleanliness and organization of the city.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will also contribute to the nationwide effort with a clean-up at Velana International Airport, ensuring that the country’s busiest transportation hub is prepared for the influx of travelers during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will conduct its own clean-up drive in Hulhumalé on the 22nd of this month. The coordinated efforts across the nation aim to provide a clean and healthy environment as the country prepares for the holy month.

This nationwide clean-up is a part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, helping to create a more pleasant atmosphere for all residents and visitors during Ramadan.
