The government has announced an increase in token numbers for the distribution of tuna cases in the Greater Malé region, aiming to streamline the process ahead of Ramadan.

In a post on X, Minister of Local Governance Adam Shareef Umar stated that Sunday’s distribution had proceeded smoothly and efficiently. He added that, following the initial rollout, the government has decided to raise the number of tokens allocated at each distribution center. Additionally, tokens that were initially scheduled for later dates will now be moved up to an earlier time.

Token numbers are issued daily at 6:00 PM via the ‘Roadha Hadhiya’ portal. The government aims to complete the distribution before the start of Ramadan, ensuring that each household receives its allocated tuna case. Distribution will continue until the process is finalized.

To collect the tuna cases, individuals must present their national identity card and an electricity bill from the past month. Each person is allowed to collect up to three cases, corresponding to three separate electricity meters.

The tuna cases are available at 13 distribution points across Malé, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé, with the number of tokens issued varying by location:

  • Malé:

    • MIFCO complex, Maafannu
    • MTCC Sawmill
    • Henveiru Football Stadium
    • Galolhu Football Stadium (Setup 1-4)
    • Social Center
  • Hulhumalé:

    • Umar Zahir Building (Phase I)
    • POLCO Tower (Phase I)
    • H10 (Phase II)
    • Kaamil Didi School (Phase II)
  • Vilimalé:

    • WAMCO site

Initially, the distribution was limited to a few locations, but it was later expanded following reports of long queues. The government’s latest move to increase token numbers is expected to further ease congestion and improve efficiency in the process.
