President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his commitment to providing water and electricity bill discounts for households during Ramadan, mirroring the policy implemented last year. The assurance was made during his visit to Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll as part of a three-day tour aimed at engaging with local communities and addressing regional development needs.
During his visit, the President met with members of the island’s council and the Women’s Development Committee, and he also inaugurated several key infrastructure projects. Speaking in Kudahuvadhoo last night, President Muizzu confirmed that the government will once again offer discounted utility bills throughout Ramadan.
In addition to the utility discounts, the government is distributing a 48-tuna can case allowance to each household ahead of Ramadan. While the issuance of these tuna can cases has already commenced across the atoll, distribution in the capital, Malé, is still underway.
Addressing circulating rumors, President Muizzu dismissed claims by opposition parties that utility bills would be increased to offset the cost of disbursing the tuna can cases. “These allegations are baseless,” he said, firmly assuring that the same discounts on water and electricity bills will be provided this Ramadan, just as they were last year.
The President’s visit to Dhaalu Atoll underscores his administration’s commitment to engaging with local communities, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring that essential support measures reach households across the Maldives during the holy month.
