Schools Across Maldives Close for Annual Holiday Ahead of Ramadan

Schools across the Maldives have closed their doors for the annual holiday, marking the beginning of the long-awaited break for students just ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. The closure comes as Ramadan is set to commence this weekend, with the start of the fasting month falling on Saturday.

Students, who collected their report cards on Thursday, now look forward to a prolonged break throughout Ramadan. This holiday gives families the opportunity to prepare for the significant month and celebrate the season with loved ones.

According to the academic calendar released by the Ministry of Education, schools will remain closed during Ramadan, and students will return to classes on April 7 for the new academic year. The reopening of schools will signal the resumption of educational activities after the holiday break.

The calendar also outlines the upcoming school schedule for the year, including the first term break, which will begin on July 24. After a short break, the second term will commence on August 10. The second term will conclude with a break starting on December 25, and students will return to school on January 27, 2026, for the start of the new academic year.

As students take a well-deserved break and prepare for Ramadan, schools and families alike are making their final preparations for the sacred month. This holiday period marks not just the end of one academic year, but also a time of reflection and renewal for the Maldivian community.
