Allied Insurance has partnered with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) for the Maldives Maritime Conference 2026, joining the industry gathering as its Insurance and Risk Partner.
The conference, scheduled to take place on October 5, will bring together maritime professionals, policymakers, industry leaders and international experts for discussions on issues shaping the future of the sector.
As preparations for the conference continue, Allied Insurance Managing Director Hussain Luwaiz highlighted the importance of bringing different parts of the maritime industry together to exchange knowledge and build professional connections.
MPL said this year’s conference is intended to provide a platform where participants can explore emerging ideas, share industry perspectives and strengthen relationships across the maritime community.
Allied’s involvement also brings the insurance and risk management sector into those discussions, an area closely connected to shipping, cargo movement, port operations and the wider maritime industry.
The company was initially announced as a Bronze Sponsor of MMC 2026 earlier this year, with the partnership agreement signed by MPL Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Mueen and Allied Chief Underwriting Officer Iuliana Rusei. Allied is now being presented by MPL as the conference’s Insurance and Risk Partner.
MMC 2026 will be the second edition of the Maldives Maritime Conference and will be held under the theme “Securing Our Seas, Safeguarding Our Future.”
The event was originally scheduled for April 15 but was postponed to October 5 as MPL introduced a series of cost-saving measures amid economic pressures at the time.
A broad group of public and private organisations have been brought into this year’s conference.
Public Service Media has been appointed as Broadcasting Partner, while Maldives State Shipping is participating as Logistics Partner. Villa Shipping and Trading Company is the Hosting Partner and Maldives Maritime Journal is the Magazine Partner.
Other organisations involved include the Maldives Coast Guard, Maldives Police Service, Maldives National University, the Ministry responsible for transport, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the International Association of Ports and Harbors.
MPL has also been introducing speakers and industry experts ahead of the conference, with discussions expected to draw on both local experience and international expertise.
The conference comes at a significant period for the country’s maritime and logistics sector, as work progresses on relocating the Malé Commercial Port to Thilafushi.
The government describes the relocation as a major effort to modernise the country’s trade infrastructure, increase port capacity and reduce heavy cargo activity within congested Malé.
The new development is planned across approximately 60 hectares in Thilafushi and is expected to include an international seaport, facilities serving domestic islands and resorts, commercial warehousing and trading areas. The government has set November 2027 as the target for completing the project.
MPL, a fully state-owned company established in 2008, is responsible for managing and operating government-owned ports and port facilities across the country, including the Malé Commercial Harbour.
Against that backdrop, MMC 2026 is expected to provide a forum for stakeholders to discuss the opportunities, risks and operational challenges facing the Maldives as its maritime infrastructure and trade network continue to develop.
