Direct Flights from Maldives to Cochin and Trivandrum Now Served by Maldivian’s A330

Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives, has officially launched its first-ever wide-body aircraft service to Cochin and Trivandrum in India, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s operations.

The inaugural flight of the Airbus A330 to Cochin International Airport touched down on Sunday afternoon, signaling the beginning of direct flights to the popular destinations. The new service comes as part of Maldivian’s efforts to meet increasing demand for travel to these regions, particularly for medical tourism.

Cochin and Trivandrum are well-known among Maldivians for medical treatments, with many citizens traveling regularly to these cities for healthcare services. Previously, Maldivian operated flights to these destinations using smaller aircraft such as the ATR 72 and the Airbus A320. However, with growing demand for larger capacity flights, the national carrier has introduced the A330 to better accommodate passengers.

Maldivian’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Iyas, highlighted that the decision to deploy the A330 was driven by the rising demand for seats on flights to these popular destinations. He assured that this larger aircraft would continue to operate on routes with higher passenger numbers, ensuring a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers.

This expansion of Maldivian’s international operations marks a significant step in the airline’s growth strategy, offering enhanced connectivity between the Maldives and key destinations in India.
