Ministry of Housing Receives Over 600 Complaints Regarding Flat Allocation List

The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure has reported receiving more than 600 complaints since the release of the 4,000 flat allocation list. The list, which outlines both eligible and ineligible beneficiaries, was made public on February 27, with the opportunity to submit complaints opening shortly thereafter.

As of today, the Ministry has confirmed that 675 complaints have been filed. Of these, 452 complaints are related to the three-bedroom flat list, while 223 complaints concern the two-bedroom flat list. The complaints pertain to various issues regarding eligibility, points, and qualifications for the flats offered under the government’s housing initiative.

The Ministry is giving individuals until the end of this month to submit any further complaints. Those who feel their eligibility has been misjudged can submit their concerns through email at gedhoruveriya@infrastructure.gov.mv or send a formal letter to the Ministry. Additionally, inquiries and requests for more information about the complaint process can be directed to the Ministry’s contact number, 4004911.

In response to the complaints, the Ministry has emphasized that the handover process for the flats will continue, with priority given to those who meet the eligibility requirements. However, those who are deemed ineligible, or those who have not received the requisite points, will not be allocated flats until the complaints are reviewed and resolved.

Out of the 4,000 flats built under the landlord scheme, 1,820 individuals have been deemed eligible for the housing units. The list includes 3,721 applicants for the three-bedroom flats, with 1,423 qualifying based on the 75-point threshold. Meanwhile, from the 1,218 applicants for the two-bedroom flats, 397 individuals qualified with at least 73 points.

The Ministry has reassured the public that all complaints will be thoroughly reviewed before final decisions are made.
