Keyodhoo Sees Completion of Major Utility Infrastructure Project

The Government has completed the water and sewerage project in Keyodhoo, Vaavu Atoll, marking another step in its broader effort to improve essential infrastructure across the islands.

According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the project included the installation of two 45-tonne reverse osmosis plants, two 345-tonne drinking water storage tanks, and a 960-tonne rainwater storage tank. On the sewerage side, three pumping stations were established, along with a 4.3-kilometre water network and a 3.9-kilometre sewerage network. The project also incorporated 27-kilowatt solar panels to support energy efficiency.

The state-funded project was contracted to SAS e Construction Pvt Ltd and officially began in 2023. The Ministry confirmed that the water and sewerage systems have now been fully installed and handed over to the operator. During the ongoing testing phase, services are being provided to residents free of charge.

The completion of the Keyodhoo project follows similar achievements in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the water and sewerage system in Felidhoo, also in Vaavu Atoll, was finalised. In February, infrastructure projects were completed in Fares Mathoda (Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll), and Isdhoo and Gan (Laamu Atoll).

Officials say these projects are part of the Government’s commitment to ensure clean water and sanitation services are available to communities across the Maldives.
