President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt greetings to the leaders and people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the country’s 54th Independence Day.
In letters sent to Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, President Muizzu conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Maldivian government and its citizens. He also congratulated the Government of Bangladesh and its people for their continued progress since the country’s independence in 1971.
President Muizzu emphasised the strong and longstanding ties between the Maldives and Bangladesh, describing them as a relationship built on mutual understanding, regional cooperation, and close people-to-people links. He expressed confidence that bilateral collaboration across various sectors will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
Highlighting the shared commitment to peace and stability in the region, President Muizzu reaffirmed his hope that both countries would further deepen their partnership to the mutual benefit of their citizens.
In addition to the formal letters, the Maldivian President also marked the occasion with a post on his official X account, commemorating Bangladesh’s Independence Day and extending warm wishes to the nation.
March 26 marks the anniversary of Bangladesh’s 1971 declaration of independence, a pivotal moment in the country’s modern history.
