In a powerful message marking International Nurses Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has made a heartfelt pledge to transform the welfare and recognition of nurses across the Maldives, calling their service “the soul of our nation.”

Speaking with clarity and compassion, the president announced his government’s unwavering commitment to elevating the standards, voices, and rights of nurses—those who stand on the frontlines of care, compassion, and healing. His remarks underscored a broader vision to strengthen healthcare delivery by investing in its most vital human resource: the nurses.

President Muizzu stated that his administration would actively listen to the concerns of nursing professionals and implement structural reforms to improve their working conditions, professional growth, and overall well-being. “We are committed to uplifting nurses not just in words, but in meaningful action,” he affirmed.

In his statement, the president hailed the dedication of nurses as a cornerstone of national pride, describing nursing as a profession that carries unmatched spiritual value—where compassion, kindness, and selflessness outweigh financial gain.

Taking to social media, President Muizzu reflected on the pivotal role nurses play from the moment a patient enters the healthcare system to their final recovery. “You are the comforting presence in every hospital room, the steady hands behind every recovery, and the light in some of the darkest moments,” he wrote.

International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on May 12, commemorates the invaluable contribution of nurses around the world. This year, under Muizzu’s leadership, the Maldives observed the day with renewed focus on healthcare empowerment.

Concluding his message, the president extended his warm congratulations to nurses across the country and expressed his ambition to see their continued advancement. “My government stands with our nurses. We will uplift you. We will honour you. And we will never take your sacrifices for granted.”
