China Opens Applications for Fully Funded Postgraduate Scholarships for Maldivian Students

China has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 MOFCOM Scholarship University Program, offering fully funded postgraduate opportunities to Maldivian students working in the public sector.

According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development, a total of 39 slots are available under the scholarship program—14 for PhD studies and 25 for Master’s degrees. All expenses of the selected candidates will be covered by the Chinese government, including tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, monthly stipends, resettlement allowances, medical insurance, and round-trip air tickets.

The scholarship is offered as part of China’s ongoing support for capacity-building in partner nations, and is aimed at enhancing professional development among government employees and public sector professionals.

To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 45 as of September 1, 2025, and should have at least three years of professional experience in a field relevant to their chosen area of study. Candidates must also be currently employed in the public sector and fulfill the admission criteria of the respective universities in China.

The deadline for applications is set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, and submissions must be made through the Ministry’s official portal.

This initiative continues China’s longstanding educational cooperation with the Maldives, providing Maldivian professionals with the opportunity to pursue advanced academic training at leading Chinese universities.
