The National Centre for the Holy Quran in the Maldives has announced that two candidates will be selected to represent the country in this prestigious event. Participants can compete under one of two categories: memorisation of the entire Quran with correct recitation and Tajweed, or memorisation of 15 consecutive Juz’ (parts) of the Quran with proper articulation and intonation.

Eligibility requirements for Maldivian applicants include:

  • Being a male citizen of the Maldives

  • Under the age of 25 (according to the Hijri calendar)

  • Not being a widely recognised reciter within the Maldives

  • Not having participated in the competition previously

For the full memorisation category, applicants must also possess an official certification of Quran memorisation and demonstrate proficiency in Tajweed.

In a move toward inclusivity, the competition organisers have committed to supporting participants with special needs, including visually impaired contestants or those under the age of 17. Such individuals may be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their travel and stay.

Applications for consideration must be submitted to the National Centre for the Holy Quran by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 11.

This marks a rare and significant opportunity for Maldivian youth to gain international recognition for their Quranic knowledge and skills while fostering deeper connections with the global Islamic community.
