First Lady Sajidha Mohamed Visits Singapore Food Agency to Discuss Food Safety Cooperation

As part of the official state visit to Singapore, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed visited the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Tuesday, where she held discussions focused on enhancing food safety standards and regulatory cooperation between the Maldives and Singapore.

The First Lady was warmly received by Dr Tan Lee Kim, Deputy Director-General of Food Administration, and engaged with senior officials from the agency. The visit was held at the invitation of Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and took place alongside President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s broader diplomatic engagements in the country.

Talks during the visit centred on knowledge-sharing and collaboration in food safety regulation—an area both nations have prioritised as part of their national development goals. The discussions also explored opportunities to adapt Singapore’s research-led innovations in food governance to support the Maldives’ growing focus on sustainable food systems and import substitution.

The Singapore Food Agency is Singapore’s lead authority for ensuring food safety and security. Its efforts include boosting domestic food production, tightening regulatory controls, and investing in science and innovation to safeguard the nation’s food supply chain.

The First Lady’s visit underscores the Maldives’ commitment to improving public health outcomes through stronger food regulation and marks a new area of bilateral cooperation as the two nations commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties.
