Among the most notable commitments, President Muizzu assured Hirimaradhoo residents that their relocation to Hanimaadhoo would be completed within 18 months, with adequate housing provided for all. He also confirmed that Hanimaadhoo International Airport will be fully operational by November, a move expected to boost connectivity and regional development.

Tourism and Infrastructure Development

The President announced that the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will soon begin practical work in Naagoashi, while plans for a new airport in Makunudhoo were also revealed. Additionally, Vaikaradhoo will see the establishment of a branch of the Centre for Holy Quran, strengthening religious education opportunities in the region.

During the tour, the President presided over the signing of multiple agreements and the launch of projects covering tourism expansion, transportation networks, and airport and harbour development. He also announced upcoming initiatives in housing, education, healthcare, fisheries, and agriculture under the government’s Northern Integrated Development Zone strategy.

Strengthening Community Engagement

The visit was part of President Muizzu’s broader pledge to tour all Maldivian atolls, engaging directly with councils at island, atoll, and city levels. The President reiterated that the government’s foremost duty is to advance the aspirations of citizens and assured that their voices would remain central to shaping development policy.

He further emphasised his administration’s commitment to ensuring that progress is swift, sustainable, and inclusive, reflecting the needs and expectations of communities across the Maldives.
