“Malaysia remains a valued partner and friend of the Maldives,” President Muizzu stated. “We deeply appreciate the strong connections between our governments and the people, and we hope to continue working together to strengthen our cooperation.”

Malaysia marks its Independence Day annually on 31 August, commemorating its liberation from British colonial rule in 1957. This year’s celebrations mark the country’s 68th year of independence — a milestone that continues to resonate across the region.

The Maldives and Malaysia enjoy longstanding diplomatic, economic, and educational ties, with Malaysia being a key destination for Maldivian students and a close partner in regional affairs.
