In his remarks at the ceremony, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of deepening ties with China, describing the agreements as “practical steps” toward realising shared goals of prosperity and resilience. He added that the Maldives values its relationship with China, which has historically played a vital role in supporting infrastructure growth and national development.

The new agreements also reflect China’s continued engagement with the Maldives through strategic cooperation in emerging fields such as renewable energy, which is expected to contribute significantly to the island nation’s sustainability efforts.

President Muizzu is currently in China on an official visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. During his trip, he is also participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, where leaders are meeting to discuss global peace, security, and development priorities.
