Over 2,200 Gulhifalhu Land Recipients Receive Registries Under Binveriyaa Scheme

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that registries have been issued to more than 2,200 recipients of land plots from Kaafu Gulhifalhu under the government’s flagship Binveriyaa housing scheme.

According to the Ministry, 2,241 out of 3,548 eligible recipients have now collected their registries since the distribution process began on 12 July 2025. Officials said the remaining recipients will receive their documents in the coming weeks as the issuance continues.

The Gulhifalhu reclamation project, valued at MVR 2 billion, was awarded to the Dutch dredging company Boskalis and commenced in July 2024. Although the initial land draw was carried out under the previous administration, the current government has since revised the island’s land-use plan twice to optimise allocation and infrastructure planning. A re-draw of plots was conducted on 30 May 2025, with registry issuance now proceeding in line with the updated plan.

The Ministry also confirmed that the land plot agreement for Gulhifalhu has been amended to correct certain inconsistencies identified in the earlier version, ensuring full compliance with current laws and regulations.

Recipients collecting their registries are required to present their original National Identity Card. Representatives collecting on behalf of recipients must provide both a power of attorney and their own original ID for verification.

The Binveriyaa Scheme is one of the government’s key housing initiatives, aimed at providing land ownership opportunities to Maldivians and easing the population pressure in the Greater Malé region through large-scale reclamation and housing projects.
