Maldives High Commission Assists Mother and Child Affected by Sri Lanka’s Severe Flooding

The Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka has confirmed that it has extended urgent assistance to a Maldivian mother and child who were caught in one of the areas hardest hit by the recent landslides and flooding triggered by Cyclone Ditwah.

Speaking to PSM News, the High Commission said the pair had been living in Malabe, a district situated along riverbanks that suffered extensive damage as heavy rains caused severe flooding and soil erosion. They have since been safely evacuated and are now receiving the support they require.

The High Commission noted that it is continuously monitoring the unfolding situation across Sri Lanka, where widespread landslides, inundation, and infrastructure disruptions have affected multiple regions. Officials said assistance to Maldivians in affected areas is being provided without interruption.

Amid the ongoing crisis, the High Commission has urged all Maldivian citizens residing in or visiting Sri Lanka to strictly follow the safety advisories issued by Sri Lankan authorities and disaster management agencies.

For those requiring immediate help, the High Commission has activated a dedicated emergency hotline: +94 768 816 666. Maldivian travellers have also been advised to stay updated on flight schedules and travel notices, as several airlines have reported delays and cancellations due to the adverse weather.
