BCC Unveils Plans to Boost SMEs and Build Creative Economy Through Nationwide Creator Hubs

The Business Center Corporation (BCC) has announced a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and nurturing a skilled, creative economy in the Maldives.

Speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu programme, BCC’s Director of Investment and International Relations, Mohamed Eman, said the corporation is moving ahead with plans to establish Creator Hubs in Malé and across the atolls, designed to support artists, freelancers and creative entrepreneurs.

Eman explained that the hubs will serve as shared workspaces equipped with essential tools and facilities, while also opening up remote work opportunities for professionals based outside the capital. He noted that such infrastructure is critical for building a sustainable creative economy and ensuring that talent from all parts of the country can participate in emerging industries.

Highlighting the broader economic context, Eman said SMEs continue to form the backbone of the Maldivian economy, commending the commitment and resilience of local manufacturers and business owners. He added that empowering these enterprises remains central to BCC’s mandate.

As part of the planning process, the corporation has been engaging directly with artists, entrepreneurs and industry experts through consultations and information sessions, gathering feedback to shape its programmes. These efforts align with the vision of President Mohamed Muizzu to develop a skilled economy supported by innovation and local talent, a priority endorsed by the Cabinet.

With Creator Hubs and expanded SME service centres in the pipeline, BCC aims to make entrepreneurship and creative work more accessible nationwide, while contributing to long-term economic diversification and resilience beyond traditional sectors.
