Foreign Ministry Issues Travel Advisory for Maldivians Visiting Bangladesh Ahead of Elections

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory for Maldivian citizens planning to travel to Bangladesh, as the country prepares for its upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 February.

In a statement released by the ministry, travellers were informed that Bangladeshi authorities will temporarily suspend the issuance of visas on arrival from 15 January to 15 February, as part of heightened security measures linked to the election period.

The Foreign Ministry has advised all Maldivians intending to travel to Bangladesh during this timeframe to obtain the required visa in advance. Visa applications must be submitted through the High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, located in Hulhumalé.

Travellers have been urged to complete the visa process well ahead of their intended travel dates to avoid delays or disruptions. The ministry noted that failure to secure a visa prior to arrival could result in significant inconvenience.

For further information regarding visa requirements or related travel enquiries, members of the public have been advised to contact the Bangladeshi High Commission by phone at 3320859 or via email at [email protected].

The Foreign Ministry said it will continue to monitor developments related to the elections and provide updates as necessary, while encouraging Maldivians to remain informed and plan their travel accordingly.
