New GP Clinic to Open at Amaan Udhares Tower in March

Health authorities have announced that a new general practitioner (GP) clinic will begin operations in March at FDC’s Amaan Udhares Tower in Malé, as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to primary healthcare services.

A spokesperson from Hulhumalé Hospital said the move comes in response to the rapid population growth in Hulhumalé Phase II, which has led to an increased demand for medical services. According to the hospital, strengthening community-level healthcare remains a priority to ensure residents can access timely and convenient treatment.

The new facility will be located on the first floor of Amaan Udhares Tower 6 and is being developed under a government initiative aimed at improving primary healthcare coverage in the Malé region. The space designated for the clinic was officially handed over to the Malé City Group of Hospitals in December last year, with preparations for its launch currently underway.

Health officials noted that GP clinics play a key role in easing congestion at major hospitals by managing non-emergency cases closer to residential areas. They are also expected to be particularly important during periods of high patient inflow, such as seasonal flu outbreaks, by providing frontline care and reducing pressure on specialised hospital services.

The clinic will offer a range of services, including consultations with general practitioners, laboratory sample collection, and X-ray facilities.

The upcoming clinic adds to a growing network of GP facilities in the Malé area. The first GP clinic was established in Maafannu, followed by another at the Hiyaa flats, while an additional clinic is currently being set up in Henveiru.
