The Ministry of Economic Development has announced revised operating hours for retail outlets and food and beverage businesses during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, introducing a uniform schedule that will apply nationwide.
In a public statement issued today, the ministry said cafés and restaurants will be permitted to operate daily from 5:30 pm to 3:00 am throughout the month of Ramadan. These establishments will also be allowed extended hours during the first six days of Shawwal, during which they may remain open from 4:30 am until 3:00 am.
Retail businesses, including shops and commercial outlets, have been authorised to operate from 5:30 am to 1:00 am, starting from tomorrow and continuing through the end of the first six days of Shawwal.
The ministry clarified that the revised operating hours will apply across all inhabited islands and include food and beverage outlets that previously held approval for 24-hour operations. The move is aimed at ensuring consistency in commercial activity while accommodating the religious and social considerations associated with the fasting month.
According to the official calendar, the first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on 18 February, subject to the sighting of the moon.
The Ministry of Economic Development reminded business operators that full compliance with the announced operating hours and existing regulations is required throughout Ramadan and the early days of Shawwal.
