MPL Establishes Dedicated Shed to Speed Up Ramadan Food Imports

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has constructed a 3,000-square-foot facility aimed at accelerating the clearance of perishable food items imported into the Maldives during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to MPL, the newly built shed has been set up to facilitate quicker processing of perishable goods arriving at ports in the Malé area. The initiative is intended to reduce delays and ensure essential food items reach the market without disruption.

Officials said the facility will allow businesses to unload and clear shipments more efficiently, particularly as import volumes typically rise during Ramadan. The additional storage space is also designed to enhance the safe handling and temporary storage of temperature-sensitive goods.

Each year, Ramadan sees a surge in food imports as demand increases nationwide. MPL noted that it routinely implements operational measures during this period to streamline port activities and ease clearance procedures.

The new shed forms part of broader efforts to maintain stable supply chains and ensure the timely availability of essential goods throughout the fasting month.
