Financial Relief Measures Introduced for Sinamalé and Hiyaa Flats

President Mohamed Muizzu has announced a special financial relief package for families residing in the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats in Galolhu, including a MVR 100,000 allowance and a waiver of penalty charges on outstanding rent.

The announcement was made during a meeting with residents held at Mulee’aage, where community members raised concerns about their living conditions and financial obligations.

The relief applies to residents of Sinamalé Flats 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as Malé Hiyaa Flats 1 and 2. According to the President, the measure is intended to ease financial strain on households while also responding to longstanding complaints regarding structural deterioration and unresolved maintenance issues in the buildings.

Under the arrangement:

  • If a household’s outstanding amount exceeds MVR 100,000, the payable sum will be capped at MVR 100,000.

  • If the outstanding balance is below MVR 100,000, the full amount will be waived, and any remaining portion of the MVR 100,000 allowance will be deposited directly into the resident’s bank account.

  • Residents who have already completed full payment for their flats will receive the entire MVR 100,000 as a direct benefit.

During the meeting, residents outlined the challenges they face, including rent arrears, accumulated penalties and maintenance concerns. In response, President Muizzu assured those present that immediate steps would be taken to implement the relief measures and address the issues raised.

Officials described the initiative as part of broader efforts to provide support to households affected by financial pressures while working toward long-term solutions for housing concerns in the area.
