Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, has commemorated a decade of operations to the Maldives, celebrating the milestone with a special ceremony at Velana International Airport on March 30, 2026.
The event marked ten years since the airline launched scheduled flights to the Maldives on March 30, 2016, highlighting its sustained presence in one of the country’s important tourism markets.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, passengers arriving on flight SV838 were greeted with a warm reception at the airport. Travellers departing from the airline’s Terminal 1 operations were also given commemorative treats, creating a festive atmosphere to mark the occasion.
Over the past ten years, Saudia has maintained consistent services to the Maldives, supporting visitor arrivals and contributing to the continued growth of the tourism sector. Industry observers note that the airline has played a key role in strengthening air connectivity between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, while also reinforcing broader bilateral ties.
Officials say the milestone reflects Saudia’s long-term commitment to the Maldivian market and underscores the importance of international carriers in sustaining the country’s tourism-driven economy.
With tourism remaining a central pillar of the Maldives’ economy, partnerships with global airlines continue to play a crucial role in ensuring steady visitor flows and expanding access to key source markets.
