Elections Commission Rejects Claims Over Ballot Secrecy Ahead of Polls

The Elections Commission (EC) has dismissed allegations suggesting that voter secrecy could be compromised in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, as well as the scheduled public referendum.

In a statement issued in response to claims circulating on social media, the Commission described the concerns as unfounded, warning that the spread of misinformation risks eroding public trust in the electoral process.

The EC emphasised that all procedures related to voting have been carefully structured to guarantee complete anonymity. Officials stationed at polling centres are required to adhere to strict protocols that prevent them from identifying how any individual casts their vote.

To further protect voter independence, each voter will be provided with three separate ballot papers. This arrangement is intended to ensure that individuals can cast their votes privately and without any form of external influence.

The Commission reaffirmed that preparations for the elections and referendum are being carried out in accordance with established legal frameworks designed to uphold both the integrity and confidentiality of the voting process.

Officials urged the public to rely on verified information and reiterated their commitment to conducting a transparent and secure election.
