The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has opened applications for land plots under the Binveriyaa housing scheme, giving eligible Maldivians a one-month window to apply.
According to the ministry, applications will be accepted until 30 April, with submissions to be completed through the official online portal.
Under this phase of the scheme, applicants will be considered for 1,250-square-foot plots within the Rasmale’ project — a major housing initiative currently under development.
The allocation is primarily aimed at two groups:
- Individuals who previously obtained land through joint applications
- Applicants who were earlier deemed ineligible due to ownership of a flat under another government housing programme
Applicants are required to submit their forms electronically via the designated portal. The ministry has also outlined supporting documentation requirements in the Government Gazette.
These include:
- Marriage certificates where applicable
- Documentation of existing land or housing ownership
- A declaration of rights
- Proof of long-term residency in Malé, such as records indicating residence since birth or the date of relocation
The Rasmale’ development is among the government’s largest efforts to address housing demand nationwide. Land reclamation works are currently underway across multiple sites, with dredging operations taking place in 11 locations.
Authorities say the project aims to reclaim a total of 1,009 hectares, with nearly 500 hectares already completed.
Following the official launch of the project on 18 December 2023, the government contracted the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in December last year to accelerate development works.
Officials say the project is expected to play a key role in easing housing pressures and supporting the development of a new urban area in the Greater Malé region.
