The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert covering a large stretch of the country as unsettled weather conditions are expected to intensify.
The alert spans from Haa Alif Atoll to Huvadhu Atoll and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM tonight.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Forecast
Meteorologists have warned of widespread showers and thunderstorms across the alert zone, with squally winds likely to accompany the system. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 40 miles per hour during gusts.
Sea conditions are forecast to be moderately rough, particularly during periods of intense weather.
Earlier in the day, a similar alert had already been issued for parts of the southern atolls before being expanded to cover a broader area.
Public Urged to Exercise Caution
Authorities have advised both the public and those at sea to remain vigilant while the alert is in place. Seafarers, in particular, have been urged to monitor updates closely and take necessary precautions.
The Met Office said further advisories will be issued if conditions worsen.
