The opening session was officially inaugurated by Attorney General Ahmed Usham, who attended as chief guest. Opening remarks were also delivered by Pension Office Chief Operating Officer Mariyam Shiuna and ISSA Secretary General Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano.

Discussions during the seminar are centered on the evolving challenges facing social security systems, particularly in Asia and the Pacific. Key topics include demographic ageing, changes in labour markets, and broader economic pressures that impact the sustainability of such systems.

Participants are also examining ways to expand participation in social security schemes, adapt to shifting employment trends, and strengthen safeguards against fraud.

Organizers noted that the seminar will explore potential reforms aimed at managing the financial pressures associated with ageing populations, while also identifying strategies to maintain system resilience during periods of economic uncertainty.

In addition, experts are sharing insights on improving institutional governance, leveraging digital technologies, and enhancing human resource capabilities to streamline administration and reduce operational costs.

The seminar, conducted in English, includes representatives from ISSA member countries and organizations across the Asia-Pacific and Eurasia regions. Officials say the event provides an important platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration to strengthen social security systems at both national and regional levels.
