Taxi App Finally Launching Next Week

A mobile application designed to streamline taxi services in the Greater Malé region is expected to be rolled out for public use next week, according to Mohamed Saeed.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the Minister said the MTCC Taxi Line app has already received approval from the Apple App Store, with final preparations underway to make it available for download in the coming days.

Currently, the service operates through a web-based platform, but the introduction of a dedicated mobile application is expected to improve accessibility and convenience for users. Officials say the app will allow passengers to book taxis more efficiently, reducing delays and enhancing the overall user experience.

The service, operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), has seen growing demand since its launch. Data released by the company shows that average wait times for taxis stand at around eight minutes, while the average journey lasts approximately 12 minutes.

Between April 13 and April 18, more than 11,000 trips were recorded, reflecting increasing usage of the service. Additionally, over 7,200 bookings were made through the web platform between April 18 and May 1. Officials noted that overall trip bookings in the Malé area have risen by about 50 percent since the service began.

The taxi service was officially launched earlier this month by President Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held in Hulhumalé Central Park.

In addition to the online platform, customers can currently book taxis by calling the hotline 1655. MTCC confirmed that fare structures will continue to follow rates set by the Ministry of Transport.

Authorities say the introduction of the mobile application is part of broader efforts to address transportation challenges in the capital region and provide more efficient services to the public.
