President Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the School of Engineering and Logistics under the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), marking a significant step in strengthening the technical and professional capacity of the country’s armed forces.

The school was opened during a ceremony held to commemorate the 134th anniversary of the MNDF, with officials describing the initiative as a historic milestone for military training in the Maldives.

Established in B. Kihadhoo, the institution is the first of its kind in the country dedicated to providing structured technical education and professional skills training for military personnel and participants of national service programmes.

According to the Ministry of Defence and National Service, one of the key objectives of the school is to support the government’s Maldivian National Service initiative by equipping participants with practical, job-ready skills.

At present, 65 students from 35 islands are enrolled at the school, including 49 male students aged between 16 and 19, and 16 female students.

The training programmes, which run for four months, cover a range of technical disciplines such as automobile and marine engineering, electrical work, refrigeration, welding, and office management. These courses are offered at Level 3 and are approved by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.

In addition to technical instruction, the school will place emphasis on discipline, punctuality, and values-based education, with training conducted under the supervision of experienced MNDF personnel. Officials say this approach is aimed at developing well-rounded individuals committed to national service.

The anniversary ceremony also featured a presentation highlighting the history of the Maldivian military, along with the awarding of special medals to recognise long-serving members of the force.
