The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has opened applications for its 2026 Apprenticeship Programme, offering young Maldivians an opportunity to gain nationally recognized qualifications and practical industry experience in key technical fields.
The programme is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen workforce development and improve employment opportunities for young people.
According to HDC, applications are now open to Maldivian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years, with the deadline for submissions set for June 30.
The apprenticeship programme, which has become an annual initiative of the corporation, is designed to equip participants with practical skills and workplace experience while preparing them for careers in growing sectors of the economy.
This year’s intake will provide training in three specialized areas: Health and Safety in Construction, Computer Hardware and Networking, and Surveying Technician.
Participants who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Level 3 qualification in their chosen field, enhancing their employability and professional development prospects.
HDC said the six-month training programme is scheduled to commence in August and will combine theoretical learning with hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced professionals.
To support participants throughout the training period, each apprentice will receive a monthly allowance of MVR 6,000.
The programme forms part of broader national efforts to develop a skilled local workforce and reduce reliance on expatriate labour in technical and professional sectors.
Youth employment and vocational training have remained key priorities for the government, with several state-owned enterprises and public institutions expanding apprenticeship and skills-development programmes in recent years.
HDC stated that it remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to gain industry-relevant knowledge and practical experience while helping to build the next generation of skilled professionals needed for the country’s continued development.
Interested applicants can submit their applications online before the closing date.
