Bangladeshi Man Arrested for Attempted Dollar Smuggling at Maldives Airport

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested at Velana International Airport after attempting to smuggle a significant amount of U.S. dollars out of the Maldives, according to the Aviation Security Command.

The suspect was apprehended while preparing to board a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Malé to Dhaka. During a routine luggage inspection, authorities discovered $81,030 hidden inside a cornflakes packet within the man’s bag.

The Aviation Security Command has confirmed that the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

In a recent press conference, Home Minister Ali Ihsan emphasized that the maximum amount of money that can be legally taken abroad without declaring it is $10,000. He added that anyone wishing to transport a larger sum must provide documentation proving the source of the funds.
