The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has signed a major agreement with the Ministry of Education to spearhead the development of educational infrastructure across several islands, reaffirming the company’s role in shaping the future of Maldivian youth through strategic investment in schools and community facilities.

Under the newly launched initiative, MTCC will construct classrooms and multipurpose halls in a number of islands as part of efforts to improve learning environments and provide essential community spaces.

According to project details, new classroom and multipurpose hall buildings will be developed in Shaviyani Bilehfahi, Alifu Alifu Mathiveri, Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo, and Kaafu Gulhi. Additional classrooms are also planned for Haa Alifu Molhadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo, Raa Dhuvaafaru, Baa Kudarikilu, Thaa Gaadhiffushi, Haa Alifu Maarandhoo, and Laamu Maavah.

Meanwhile, multipurpose halls are slated for construction in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram, Raa Innamaadhoo, Thaa Madifushi, and Haa Dhaalu Naivaadhoo. These facilities are expected to serve dual roles in education and community engagement, offering flexible spaces for both academic and extracurricular activities.

MTCC, widely recognized as the first publicly listed company in the Maldives, has long positioned itself as a central player in national development. Beyond its infrastructure work, the company continues to invest in community wellbeing through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.

In the final quarter of 2024, MTCC reported spending over MVR 900,000 on CSR efforts. Notable initiatives included installing geo bags in Dhaalu Vanee to combat coastal erosion and providing technical support to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Air Station in Gan.

The education infrastructure project highlights MTCC’s continued collaboration with government institutions and its commitment to creating a stronger foundation for future generations.
