In a remarkable display of inclusivity and dedication, the Maldives Airports Company Limited has celebrated the successful completion of a six-month internship program designed for individuals with special needs. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports, and Community Empowerment (MSFD), serves as a testament to the potential and capabilities that can be unlocked when individuals with disabilities are given opportunities to thrive.
The program, which ran from August to January 2025, offered participants hands-on training and work experience in various areas within the aviation sector. Four exceptional individuals, who participated in the program, have completed their internships, showcasing resilience, dedication, and a strong commitment to personal growth. Their achievements have not only been a source of pride for their families and communities but have also highlighted the importance of inclusive practices in the workplace.
During the internship, participants were provided with tailored support and mentorship to ensure they could perform to the best of their abilities. The program’s success has underscored the value of creating accessible job opportunities and fostering a welcoming environment for individuals with special needs, ensuring they are seen as valuable contributors to the workforce.
The MACL initiative aligns with broader efforts in the Maldives to enhance social inclusion and empower all members of society, regardless of their abilities. The collaboration between MACL and MSFD marks a significant step forward in creating a more inclusive job market, where individuals with special needs can pursue meaningful employment and contribute to the nation’s growth.
The completion of the internship program also emphasizes the broader need for inclusive education and vocational training that can prepare individuals with special needs for future employment opportunities. As MACL celebrates this achievement, it also sends a strong message to other sectors and organizations in the Maldives: when given the right support, people with disabilities can succeed and bring valuable perspectives and skills to any workplace.
MACL is set to continue this inclusive initiative, hoping to expand the program in the future, offering more opportunities for individuals with special needs to join the workforce and build fulfilling careers.
