The Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a safety advisory for Maldivians residing in or traveling to the Kursk region of Russia, urging them to remain vigilant due to the intensifying Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The advisory comes as Ukrainian forces have reportedly made significant incursions into the Kursk region, located just north of the Ukraine-Russia border. Ukrainian military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi claimed that Kyiv’s forces have taken control of over 40 square kilometers (more than 15 square miles) within Russia’s southwestern Kursk region in the past 24 hours, marking one of the most extensive advances since the war began over two years ago.
The Maldives Embassy in Germany, which oversees the welfare of Maldivians in the region, is closely monitoring the situation. The Foreign Ministry has emphasized the importance of safety and has encouraged Maldivians in Kursk to take extra precautions.
In light of the ongoing conflict, the Ministry has advised all Maldivian nationals in the area to stay informed about the latest developments and to be prepared for any potential risks. Those who require assistance or have concerns regarding their safety are urged to contact the Maldives Embassy in Germany for support.
This advisory follows Russia’s announcement that it would be putting peace talks with Ukraine on hold after the unexpected Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region. As tensions continue to rise, the Ministry is calling on Maldivians to prioritize their safety and avoid unnecessary risks in the conflict zone.
